A great day at Murgon Sale with the rain that fell over the weekend in the region not stopping vendors from yarding some superb quality cattle. An extremely good sale was had with an exceptional export market – some of the best money that the yard has ever seen. Heavy bulls over 600kg topped at $4.26/kg for $4,000/hd, averaging at $3.95/kg for $2,900/hd. Lighter bulls topped at $4.20/kg for $2,000/hd for an average of $4.07/kg. The cow market was some of the best money that the year has seen with light store cows making up to $3.62/kg for $1,100/hd and averaging $3.40/kg. 400-500kg Cows topped at $4.60/kg for $2,200/hd and averaged $3.64/kg. A beautiful line of red Brahman cows topped the heavy cow market at $4.30/kg for $2,600/hd. The few bullocks that were on offer made $4.14/kg for $2,500/hd.
The steer market is still very strong, with light steers in the 200-280kg weight range topping at $5.90/kg for $1,500/hd and averaging $5.31/kg. Light feeder steers topped at $5.36/kg for $1,600/hd and averaged at $5.11/kg. Feeder steers made up to $5.28/kg for $2,300/hd and averaged $5.01/kg. The heifer market saw plenty of strong competition with a great lift in price. Light heifers made up to $4.80/kg for $1,200/hd, for an average of $4.26/kg. Light feeder heifers topped at $4.50/kg for $1,700/hd, for an average of $4.15/kg. Feeder heifers topped at $4.60/kg for $2.000/hd, averaging at $4.16/kg.
Cow & calves made up to $2200/unit, for an average of $2,100/unit.
