A total of 1155hd were yarded at Murgon today with prices pulling back a bit in most market types. Good quality cows were still selling to strong competition, with the export market prices holding up considering the drier conditions in the region, which are visible with some cattle lighter than others. Bullocks sold up to $4.12/kg for $2,303.94/hd. Bulls averaged $3.23/kg for $2,016.31/hd. Light cows made up to $3.08/kg, 400-500kg cows topping at $3.60/kg, and cows over 500kg topped at $3.60/kg for $2,185.67/hd.

The steer market is still holding up for good quality animals. Steers from the Nanango area under 200kg topped at $5.18/kg for $1,004.01/hd. A pen from the Biggenden region topped the 200-280kg weight range at $5.34/kg. A pen of quality Simmental X steers from Helen Roth in the Mundubbera area made $5.18/kg for $1,103.38/hd. Steers in the 280-400kg weight bracket topped at $4.96/kg, 400-500kg weight bracket averaged $4.44/kg for $1,907.07/hd, and steers over 500kg topped at $4.12/kg. Lighter heifers made $3.44/kg. Heifers in the 280-400kg weight bracket averaged $3.28/kg. Good quality heavy heifers made up to $3.88/kg for $1,786.56/hd. There were 25 cow & calf units on offer, averaging $1,131/unit and topping at $1,350/unit.

The next Murgon Sale will be on Tuesday the 21st of October starting at 8am, followed by Coolabunia commencing at 12pm.
